Telephone Counselling Self Referral
We offer a specialist, telephone or virtual, counselling service for those bereaved by a drug related death (DRD) and those who may have experienced - or been affected by -a non-fatal overdose.
Suicidal Thoughts
Help and support is available right now if you need it. You don’t have to struggle with difficult feelings alone. Let family or friends know what’s going on for you. They may be able to offer support and help keep you safe.
Social Anxiety
Social anxiety disorder, also called social phobia, is a long-lasting and overwhelming fear of social situations. It’s a common problem that usually starts during the teenage years.
Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a severe long-term mental health condition. It causes a range of different psychological symptoms. Doctors often describe schizophrenia as a type of psychosis. This means the person may not always be able to distinguish their own thoughts and ideas from reality.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder caused by very stressful, frightening or distressing events. Someone with PTSD often relives the traumatic event through nightmares and flashbacks and may experience feelings of isolation, irritability and guilt.
Personality Disorder
A person with borderline personality disorder (one of the most common types) tends to have disturbed ways of thinking, impulsive behaviour and problems controlling their emotions. They may have intense but unstable relationships and worry about people abandoning them.
Panic Disorder
Everyone experiences feelings of anxiety and panic at certain times, but for someone with panic disorder, feelings of anxiety, stress and panic occur regularly and at any time, often for no apparent reason.
Obsessive Compulsive Behaviour
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a common mental health condition in which a person has obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours. It affects men, women and children and can develop at any age.
Hoarding Disorder
A hoarding disorder is where someone acquires an excessive number of items and stores them in a chaotic manner, usually resulting in unmanageable amounts of clutter. The items can be of little or no monetary value.
Eating Disorders
An eating disorder is when you have an unhealthy attitude to food, which can take over your life and make you ill. It can involve eating too much or too little or becoming obsessed with your weight and body shape.
Dissociative Disorders
Dissociative disorders are a range of conditions that can cause physical and psychological problems. Some dissociative disorders are very short-lived others can last much longer.
Depression
Depression is more than simply feeling unhappy or fed up for a few days. Most people go through periods of feeling down, but when you’re depressed, you feel persistently sad for weeks or months rather than just a few days.
Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)
Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), or body dysmorphia, is a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance. These flaws are often unnoticeable to others.

The First Steps advice and support guide is published for anyone aged 18 years or above who is looking to take the first steps to improve mental well-being for themselves, their friends or family members. Additionally, there is a chapter with some information for young people.
